About us

MGV Lyra, Vancouver 2006

Conductor: Rory Fader Pianist: Jennifer Kyng

In the fall of 1965, 50 eager singers had formed the MGV Lyra choir of Vancouver B.C., a German men's choir, singing songs from Central Europe and the Americas.

Our choir boys' reputation amongst German-Canadians was initially more reflective of our soccer 'skills' than our singing talents. However, under the guidance of very dedicated conductors, most singers have come to treasure this maturing choir and its camaraderie. Like aging wine, MGV Lyra is still improving.

Generally, MGV Lyra performs in German communities within 1,000 km of Vancouver, exchanging concerts with mixed choirs and men's choirs, including our Vancouver area Italian, Austrian, and Russian choirs.

Concert tours in Europe and North America were musical highlights and well received. Our spouses, the Lyra Ladies, tirelessly support us at our musical and social functions.

In North America, we have performed with many men's choirs such as the Vancouver Welsh Men's choir, Seattle's MGV Frohsinn, DMC Kelowna, Musika Nanaimo and San Francisco's MGV Liederkranz.

MGV Lyra proudly welcomes men of all ages to join in upholding the noble tradition of German Song. Choir practices are mainly in German and are on Tuesday nights (7.30 pm) at the Vancouver Alpen Club, a tradition for 44 years.
